Plymouth girls ace opener
WEST LAFAYETTE — The Plymouth Girls Tennis Team opened their 2025 season by traveling to West Lafayette to take on the Red Devils and came home with a quality 5-0 victory.
Tynley Gantz began her Senior campaign at #1 Singles with a nice win. Trailing 4-3 in the first set, Tynley rattled off 9 of the final 11 games for the straight-set victory. Junior 2S Player Sophia Cantero and Senior 3S Player Natalie Sheely both rolled to straight-set wins as well.
On the doubles side, Senior Emma Jackson paired with Junior Mia Hartley Saturday, where they secured a 6-2, 6-2 win over their counterparts at #1 Doubles. In the final match of the day to finish, Junior Marisa Langfeldt and Freshman Lydia Wray pulled out a nice three-set win at #2 Doubles.
Plymouth had many firsts on Saturday. Sophia Cantero earned her first career Varsity Singles win, while Natalie Sheely, Mia Hartley, Marisa Langfeldt, and Lydia Wray all earned their first career Varsity win.
“West Lafayette has a strong tennis tradition and has another solid team this year,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “Our girls have worked hard since practice began to prepare to play these matches, and they did very well today. We only have three girls with any Varsity experience. Combine that with the lack of outdoor practice time we’ve had, and I’m very pleased with our performance today and how well the girls competed! We are excited about this group of girls and the season ahead.”
The JV worked to a 6-6 tie with West Lafayette.
“Just like the Varsity, our JV girls lack some experience and outdoor court time, so it was exciting to see them get to play outside on a beautiful day against a different opponent,” said Haeck. “We saw some good things from them today and are excited to see their growth each match as the season progresses and as we navigate a tough opening stretch of matches.”
