Plymouth tennis aces Mishawaka
PLYMOUTH—Plymouth hosted NLC Conference opponent Mishawaka on Friday night in a match that was rescheduled from Thursday night. Plymouth won by a 5-0 score.
With Mishawaka missing two normal Varsity starters, Plymouth lost just four total games in the five Varsity matches, with none of the matches in any doubt.
Singles winners for the Pilgrims were 1S Tynley Gantz, 2S Sophia Cantero, and 3S Mia Hartley. Sophia won by “double bagel”, while Tynley and Mia lost just one game each.
Doubles winners for the Pilgrims were 1D Marley Christy-Emma Jackson and 2D Marisa Langfeldt-Natalie Sheely. Both doubles teams played a more aggressive style of doubles on Friday and performed very well. Marley and Emma didn’t lose any games, and Natalie and Marisa lost just two total games.
“Mishawaka has steadily improved as a team the last few years, and you can tell they have invested more time into tennis,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “Even with them missing a couple of Varsity pieces, I really liked how our girls played tonight. The singles did a nice job of dictating points and were aggressive with short balls tonight. We have been working with the doubles teams on being more aggressive, and I appreciated them implementing those things during their matches tonight.”
Plymouth travels to Bremen on Monday with a 5 p.m. start.
