CULVER — Ainsley Ritchie made an impressive impact in his first season with the Culver Military Academy (CMA) track and field team.
Ritchie was crowned sectional champion in the 400-meter dash at the Plymouth Sectional and also earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
Ritchie advanced to the Goshen Regional in both races and was seeded 13th out of 16 runners in the 400-meter dash.
Despite the odds, Ritchie secured a second-place finish with a personal-best time of 49.83 seconds—an improvement of 0.48 seconds over his previous best of 50.31. This regional time qualified him for the IHSAA State Finals.
Ritchie also placed eighth in the 200-meter dash at the regional meet.
“Ainsley was the leading point scorer for CMA track this spring in his first year running track,” coach Paul Patrick said. “He achieved all of this while also playing full-time for the CMA baseball team, missing two track meets in the process.”
Ritchie will cap off his junior year season by competing in the 400-meter dash at the IHSAA State Finals on Friday, June 6, at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
