Plymouth aces Concord
DUNLAP — The Plymouth Girls Tennis Team travelled to Dunlap on Tuesday to take on the host Minutemen, winning by a 5-0 final score.
Plymouth 2S player Mia Hartley and 3S player Allison Grobe took their matches handily in straight sets to give the Pilgrims a 2-0 lead.
The Pilgrim 2D team of freshmen Elly Kruyer and Hanley Feldman won the match-clinching third point with their victory. Elly and Hanley took leads in both sets and kept the momentum going, winning in straight sets. They used strong ground strokes and aggressive net play to play their best match of the young season.
Plymouth 1S player Sophia Cantero won two competitive sets against her Concord counterpart. Sophia stepped up her game in pressure moments in both sets, winning a tiebreaker 7-0 to take the first set, and then winning the final three games of the second set to take her match in straight sets 6-4.
In the final match to finish, the Pilgrim 1D duo of Marisa Langfeldt and Lydia Wray battled a tough Concord duo and pulled out a close three-set win. Marisa and Lydia trailed 5-3, 40-15, before mounting a comeback to take the opening set. They then surged to a 4-1 third-set lead, and held on to win 6-4 with a really good service game at 5-4 to close out the match.
“This was a really good win for us tonight,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “Concord has traditionally been a tough place for us to play, so we are certainly happy to get this win. We didn’t play our best tennis on some of the courts, but part of that is a credit to our opponents. Despite that, it was nice to see a lot of our girls step up in pressure situations and play winning tennis.”
“Both Sophia and Marisa/Lydia won multiple close sets that could have gone either way, and were able to step up and hit the shots necessary to get their wins. Hanley and Elly really played well tonight. It was their best match so far and I’m excited to see them continue to improve and grow as the season progresses.”
Next Match: Plymouth Varsity/JV will travel to Warsaw on Wednesday, 4/29/26, to continue their match started last Tuesday 4/21/26, 5:30PM start.
