Plymouth players place at NLC tourney

WARSAW — The Plymouth Boys Tennis Team travelled to Warsaw Saturday to compete in the Final Round of the NLC Conference Tournament. Overall, the Pilgrims went 2-3 on the day.
The two Plymouth wins Saturday came from 1S player Liam Hanyzewski, who beat his Mishawaka opponent without losing a game, and the 2D team of Benson Prater and Landon Tyler, who won their match by forfeit.
Plymouth 2S player Jonah Rich fell to his Goshen opponent in straight sets.
Pilgrim 3S player 3S Caleb Edmiston started his day out by playing some great tennis, surging to a 5-3 lead in the opening set, before his opponent recovered and eventually won in straight sets. Caleb lost to the same opponent from Wawasee back on August 21, 6-0, 6-1, so it was a great improvement from their initial meeting earlier in the season.
The longest and most competitive match of the day for the Pilgrims came from the 1D team of Nick Manzuk and Owen Walleske. Nick and Owen started out both sets well, taking 4-2 (first set) and 5-2 (second set) leads over a strong team from Wawasee before falling in a nail-biter 6-4, 7-6(9-7).
With Saturday’s results, Sophomore 1S player Liam Hanyzewski finished in 7th Place, Senior 2S player Jonah Rich finished in 6th Place, Freshman 3S player Caleb Edmiston finished in 6th Place, Seniors Nick Manzuk and Owen Walleske finished in 6th Place at 1D, and Sophomore Benson Prater and Junior Landon Tyler finished in 7th Place at 2D.
