Tough day shortened by rain for MUAC golfers
PLYMOUTH (IN) – Coming off a huge first-time MCCAA Western Conference Championship on Friday (4/24), the Marian University Ancilla Golf team was back at it yesterday (4/27) in the MCCAA’s overall Conference Championship, including teams from both golf conferences (Eastern & Western). While the event at Swan Lake Resort was supposed to play out over 2 rounds throughout the day, Mother Nature had other ideas, and the event was halted, then ended following first round action, as agreed upon by conference officials.
As for the Chargers, this was not ideal. They tend to play well later in events, and while they were sitting in 5th Place after the first round, they definitely wanted to play another 18 holes to give themselves a shot at redemption, but it was not to be had. Instead, the same Grand Rapids and Montcalm teams they had defeated consistently throughout the Spring finished ahead of them, in addition to strong performances by Mott Community College and Delta College from the Eastern Conference.
Sophomore Hunter Zdyb (+5) was the only MUAC golfer to finish under 80 with a 77. The Chargers will need to quickly regroup and prepare to play in the NJCAA Region 12 qualifying tournament next Monday (5/4) and Tuesday (5/5), when they travel to Battle Creek, Michigan, for that tournament. In order to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championships as a team, they will need to finish in the top 2 or play well enough to potentially earn a wildcard invitation. Good luck, gentlemen!!
