Lancers fall short to Redskins

LAKEVILLE – In a game where base runners were at a premium and pitching was solid, Knox put the game-winning run on the board in the top of the 5th to sneak past LaVille, 2-1.
Three pitchers held the respective offenses to a combined four hits-two by each team, and combined for 16 strikeouts in this Indiana Northern State Conference battle.
Trailing 2-0, LaVille answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with one out in the home half.
An error, a walk, and two hit batsmen cut the Knox lead to 2-1 and loaded with Lancers. But Redskin reliever Raymond Boyd got a pair of strikeouts to end the rally.
Xavier Boyd tossed 6+ innings, allowing one unearned run, a walk, and six strikeouts.
Andrew Wolford tossed 7 innings of solid ball, allowing no earned runs on two walks and eight Ks.
Andre Gonzales recorded LaVille with only two hits in the game, including a double. Wolford earned LaVille’s RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases juiced with one out in the bottom of the 7th.
It was LaVille’s first loss of the season in loop play.
