Chargers open season with ties

DONALDSON — The Marian University Ancilla Men’s Soccer team had a somewhat delayed start to their competition season this year, as there have been a couple of cancellations/postponements to begin 2025. However, the Chargers played on Wednesday, September 3rd, and Wednesday, September 10th, tying both times to MCCAA conference opponents.
The Chargers took on the Muskegon Jayhawks last Wednesday, coming to a 2-2 tie following 90 minutes.
Marian Ancilla got to scoring early in the 14th minute, as Freshman Jahnoi Moses found Freshman Esteban Saldivar for a quick goal to put the Chargers up 1-0.
In the middle of the second half, the Jayhawks were able to get on the board due to an unfortunate own goal by MUAC. Muskegon then scored just a few minutes later to go up 2-1 with 15 minutes to play. Down the stretch, however, Freshman Angel Rojas assisted on the tying goal by Freshman Jimy Gomez, and the Chargers knotted the score at 2 goals apiece before the final horn.
Marian Ancilla hosted the Red Hawks of Lake Michigan College on Wednesday, and the Chargers again found themselves trailing late, this time 1-0. But in the 88th minute, it was Sophomore Yeffreys Quintanilla to Freshman Jimy Gomez to be the savior once again, as the Chargers came to a stalemate with the Red Hawks, 1-1, moving to 0-0-2 to begin the 2025 Fall season.
The Men’s Soccer team returns home on Wednesday, with a match against St. Clair County Community College.
