Lady Dragons grab shutout win

DENVER — The Lady Dragons traveled to play the North Miami Lady Warriors Saturday morning. Not long after kickoff weather began to turn dark, but the scoreboard was bright with an Argos 5-0 win.
The Dragons were first on the scoreboard with an outside shot by Hayna Willis over the goalkeeper’s hands in the 16th minute. Willis was able to recreate the shot again in the 22nd minute, 2-0.
The storms rolled in just before the end of the first half, suspending the game for nearly an hour. That didn’t stop the Dragons and Warriors from finishing the game in the rain. Argos came out quickly in the second half, scoring in the 48th minute when Willis found Elaina Conklin, who was able to beat the keeper to the near post.
In the 56th minute, Hayna fed open Leah Pizzuto, who was able to take a one-touch shot from outside the 18, making it 4-0.
Then, in the 60th minute, Emily Pippenger sent in a cross where Caylee Mason buried the ball in the back of the net, 5-0. The Dragons went on to outshoot the Warriors 19-2.
The Dragons secured their first win and are now 1-8-1 on the season and 1-1 in HNAC play. Argos will have little downtime with three games next week, again with their first on Tuesday, hosting Tippecanoe Valley before hitting the road for Elkhart Christian and Muncie Central later in the week.
