MUAC softball swept by Lake Michigan College
PLYMOUTH (IN) – Sunday afternoon, the Marian University Ancilla Softball team hosted the Lake Michigan Red Hawks in a doubleheader. While the Chargers did come up with 12 hits on the day, they struggled to keep up with Lake Michigan, who won both games, 7-1 and 13-4. Below is a quick look at highlights from each of the two contests.
GAME-1 (L 7-1): The Red Hawks jumped out early and had 5 runs up after 2 1/2 innings. Still, Marian Ancilla got another solid pitching performance from Sophomore Kim Cummings, who struck out 8 batters in 4 innings of work, and she only allowed 3 earned runs. At the plate, Sophomore Cayla Beasley was 2-for-3 with a double, plus she drove in the lone run. Sophomore Morgan Fogle also doubled in this game, while Freshman Abby Harmon stole a base.
GAME-2 (L 13-4): The Chargers came out and played much better in game-2, and they nearly equalled Lake Michigan through 6 innings, trailing just 5-3. However, an overwhelming 8-run 7th inning for the Red Hawks extended their lead too far, and Marian Ancilla could only manage 1 run of their own in the bottom of the inning, creating the final of 13-4.
Sophomore Cayla Beasley continued to hit the ball well, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a sacrifice as well. Freshman Lauren Bruce was 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Sophomore Kim Cummings drove in a run. Freshman Abby Harmon was again active on the bases, swiping 2 in this game. Sophomore Madison Lowe pitched an inning and 2/3 without allowing a hit or a run.
The Chargers are back in action this Friday (4/3) when they host Jackson College in an MCCAA conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
