Bremen takes home opener

BREMEN — After weeks of waiting and four cancellations, the varsity baseball team won its season opener over conference foe LaVille by a final of 14-0.
Starting pitcher Casey Ton and battery mate Zack Rouch were locked in from the start, setting the Lancers down 1-2-3 in both the first and second innings. Ton finished with a 5-inning win, striking out 6 and allowing only 1 hit. The Bremen lineup found ways to get on base and ran the bases well to generate early offense.
The Lions got out to a hot start after back-to-back HBPs at the bottom of the first. Zack Buszkiewicz drove in Corban Van Vuren, then came around to score on Jack Wildauer’s sac fly. In the second, JJ Cencelewski’s two-run single plated Van Vuren and pinch runner Maddux Hickman, extending the Lions’ lead to 7. Bremen broke the game open in the third, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Van Vuren, another RBI single from Cencelewski, and a two-run double by Aiden Alvarado.
After LaVille led off the 5th with a double and a walk, Ton slammed the door to finish out the complete game win, retiring the next three batters in order.
